Married in Manhattan, Honeymooned in France and Italy

It’s been a minute since my last blog post. I got married in late September, honeymooned for the first two weeks of October, came back threw a studio party and hit the ground running with tons of work. I’m finally catching up, going through the 4000+ images I shot while we we’re in Europe and getting a feel for what our wedding photographer grabbed.

My good friend, Matt, shot the above picture on The High Line in Manhattan. He met us in NYC and followed us around for the day. I love Matt’s work mostly because he takes his time when he shoots; he picked up a camera for the first time about 18 months ago. He’s a film guy, Polaroid and 2¼ stuff for the most part  (although I’ve seen some Leica’s in his hand too) so he never really learned how to spray and pray.

I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of wedding pictures or even a bunch of honeymoon pictures but if you’re interested in seeing street scenes and structures from France and Italy feel free to hit the jump.

Pocket Camera - The Book

UPDTATE: Checkout SceneOn7's piece on the project here.

I've been shooting pictures with my iPhone since I got my first one in 2008. I first started sharing them on Facebook with a 365 project and then moved onto Instagram (my handle is @iancurcio). This is just another way to share them with a little more structure. You can download a free pdf version or paid print version of it at Magcloud.

A Case of the I Sucks

Lately I’ve had a bad case of the I sucks.  I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been looking at sites like 500 Photographers, spending too much time browsing Instagram or hanging out with some amazing shooters?

The year started out great and then I got caught up in the vicious cycle of comparing myself to other photographers. There must be a fine line between finding inspiration in the work of others and judging yourself against them.  Yet I can’t seem to find it. It’s either, I could have shot that, I wish I had shot that or why can’t I get shots like that? Never is it cool shot and move on. Why is that? Why can’t I just look and admire? Why do I have to compare myself?

I’m like a damn moth to a flame. I know I shouldn’t but I can’t resist. By the end of the day, I’ve looked, compared, think I suck again and can’t sleep until
